In addition to our surface finishing solutions used by some of Australia’s most important industries, we also offer comprehensive customer service and assistance to ensure every customer is provided with the right solution for their application.

  • Aluminium
    • Corrosion resistance of aluminium alloys maybe enhanced by chemical passivation which is to chemically convert the aluminium surface into mixed chromates and oxides in a slightly hydrated form.  This surface coating inhibits corrosion of the aluminium underneath. An aluminium alloy surface maybe chemically converted to provide protection against corrosion where low electrical resistance is required or to provide maximum protection against corrosion. MIL-DTL-5541 is a widely used specification on the requirements for chemical conversion coatings on Aluminium.

  • Blackening
    • Several metal and metal coatings can be blackened for various applications including corrosion protection, colour coding and thermal properties. The metals that can be readily blackened include aluminium, copper/copper alloys, nickel, steel, stainless steel and zinc..

  • Cadmium
    • Cadmium is a white metal and has excellent corrosion resistance. Cadmium plating is malleable and is more ductile and lubricating than zinc. It provides reliable torquing of plated threads and works well either as a final finish or as a paint base. Pure Cadmium and LHE (Low Hydrogen Embrittlement) Cadmium plating is widely used in aerospace and military applications. A widely referenced standard for Cadmium plating is SAE AMS-QQ-P-416.

  • Copper
    • Copper is a reddish pink coating that may be deposited as an undercoat or final plate. Copper is a good barrier finish used to secure adhesion between a substrate and the next layer of plating by preventing attack on the substrate and providing a consistency pure interface. Copper plating has exceptional ‘levelling’ power that helps to smooth out or hide surface imperfections and to reduce polishing costs.

Copper plating requirements may be referenced in accordance with SAE AMS 2418.

  • Electroless Nickel (EN)
    • Electroless Nickel is a hard Nickel phosphorus alloy of uniform thickness. That means the EN coating thickness on the internal corner of the box shaped object can be the same as the coating thickness found on the external surfaces or sharp points. This coating has very high corrosion resistance and low porosity. The hardness of EN can be increased by heat treatment. EN is deposited without the use of electrical current but by a mechanism called autocatalysis in which Nickel is the catalyst. The abrasion resistance of EN is superior to that of electrolytic Nickel. EN is smooth and reduces galling tendency.

Some commonly referenced specifications of EN include ASTM B 656, ASTM B733, SAE AMS 2404, SAE AMS 2405, SAE AMS 2405, SAE AMS 26074, ASTM B733, ISO 4527 and MIL-C-26074.

  • Electroless Nickel – PTFE (EN-PTFE)
    • EN-PTFE is a Nickel alloy with PTFE built in to it. EN-PTFE is self-lubricating and coats evenly onto any geometry. EN-PTFE provides the hardness and uniformity of electroless nickel with the improved lubricity and non-stick properties of Teflon.

EN-PTFE is also deposited by autocatalytic means.

EN-PTFE maybe plated in accordance with ASTM B 656, ASTM B733, SAE AMS 2404, SAE AMS 2405, SAE AMS 26074, ASTM B733, ISO 4527 and MIL-C-26074.

  • Gold
    • Gold, yellow in colour, is a noble metal that does on oxidise hence it maintains its surface electrical conductivity over a long period of time. Gold plating can be formulated to meet different hardness requirements. Together with its corrosion resistance and the ability to withstand abrasion and wear, gold plating becomes the choice of metal for electronics and telecommunication applications where predictable, stable and repeatable electrical performance is critical. Some examples of applications include electronic connectors, microwave telecommunications components, semi-conductors, printed circuit board tabs, wave guides and signal filters.

    • Gold plating is classified by its purity and hardness, in addition to plating thickness, to suit different applications:

    • - Purity 99.7% at Knoop hardness 90 max, 91-129 or 130-200

    •      (MIL-G-45204 Type I Grade A, B or C)

NEDOX® resists corrosion, friction, sticking, galling and static build-up as well as provides superior mould release.

  • NICKEL
    • Nickel is a very widely used plated metal. Nickel is a white metal characterised by a very faint yellow tint that is not always visible to the naked eye. It is very often used as an undercoat or as a final coat. When used as an undercoat, it enhances adhesion and acts as a barrier between the substrate and the next layer of coating. Nickel plating can be ductile and hard and gives improved wear resistance on softer metals such as copper and aluminium. Nickel plating can hide minor surface defects by a mechanism known as levelling. Nickel has good corrosion resistance and is mildly magnetic.

    • Ductile Nickel: is a modified nickel coating that has an aesthetically pleasing sheen yet is more ductile than any other types of electroplated nickel coatings. Despite its uniqueness, ductile nickel plating requirements maybe specified in accordance with AS 1192, BS 1244, BS 12540, DEF STAN 03-10, DIN 50968, MIL-STD-868 and SAE QQ-N-290

  • Secoplate
    • Secoplate is a ternary alloy that is readily solderable and does not consist of nickel with a magnetic permeability of 1 hence is non-magnetic. This alloy has a pleasing appearance that resembles fine satin finished stainless steel and exhibits low surface friction, high electrical conductivity and abrasion resistance. Secoplate does not discolour under the influence of sulphur and sulphides and enhances corrosion of plated connectors.

  • Silver
    • Silver plating, a white metal, is ductile and may be used to prevent galling and seizing. Silver has excellent corrosion resistance, solderability and electrical conductivity. Even the oxide of silver is electrically conductive. Silver is also bactericidal. We offer silver plating purity from 99.9 to 100%. Welding or high temperature treatment operations can result in depletion of chromium level on the surface. Prior to passivation the stainless steel part is chemically picked to remove the damaged layer of the stainless steel. Passivation is the structured formation of a continuous protective oxide or chromate film on a freshly exposed stainless steel surface. Some of the commonly referenced specifications for the passivation of stainless steel include SAE AMS 2700, ASTM A967 and SAE AMS-QQ-P-35.

Xylan 1424 protects threaded fasteners, equipment and hardware from the effects of sub-sea and splash zone exposure.

  • Zinc
    • Zinc plating is normally grey in colour and is commonly applied as a sacrificial cathodic protection coating. The coating finds applications on fasteners, automotive, building and military hardware and offers high precision dimensional control over hot dip galvanizing. Chromate passivation is usually applied on zinc plating to protect the coating from deterioration and to extend the working life of the plated component. Colours of passivation can be clear blue, gold iridescent, olive drab or black.

  • Zinc-Nickel
